Miraca Life Sciences Adds New Way to Complete GIQuIC Pathology Section and Automate ADR Tracking

Inform Diagnostics, the nation’s largest independent anatomic pathology lab, has worked closely with Wolters Kluwer throughout its latest software release of ProVation® MD to automatically populate the pathology section of the GIQuIC form for single colonoscopies, which will save hours of time for clients. Inform Diagnostics Life Sciences’ use of structured diagnostic terminology combined with its pathology interface to ProVation MD facilitates this automation. The new software release also automates the ProVation MD Adenoma Detection Rate report for physicians, which utilizes pathology data from Inform Diagnostics Life Sciences.

When Inform Diagnostics pathology reports are sent electronically via ProVation MD to ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and endoscopy centers, the structured diagnostic data flows directly into the patient chart, enabling ProVation MD to immediately utilize this data for reporting purposes. Practices and centers using both ProVation MD and Inform Diagnostics will have applicable pathology reports included in the Adenoma Detection Rate (ADR) report. Staff submitting PQRS data through GIQuIC for these procedures will need only to enter each patient’s follow-up interval.

“Inform Diagnostics has a long-standing relationship with Wolters Kluwer and ProVation MD, to develop innovative solutions for clinicians,” said Tom Zaves, Senior Vice President of Sales and Product Strategy for Inform Diagnostics. “This new reporting capability furthers our commitment to clinicians to help them meet reporting requirements and stay independent.”

What is ProVation MD?
The only structured reporting and coding solution that provides clinically relevant, intuitive software for more accurate and complete documentation of procedures, ProVation MD Gastroenterology allows physicians to effectively capture robust detail from even the most complex procedures. It then automatically generates clear, complete procedure notes and appropriate reimbursement codes.

What is GIQuIC?
The GI Quality Improvement Consortium, Ltd.—GIQuIC—is a non-profit collaboration of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), providing a quality benchmarking registry. Physicians are participating by collecting and submitting data about their colonoscopies. Participation in GIQuIC enables practices and centers to participate in PQRS (Physician Quality Report System) in order to avoid penalties by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS).

What is the Adenoma Detection Rate?
ADR is one clinical quality measure that a provider can report to CMS to participate in PQRS. The rate is calculated using pathology data for colonoscopies performed by the provider. The ASGE has stated that a physician’s adenoma detection rate during colonoscopies is a good indicator of quality—a high rate is associated with low post-colonoscopy rates of colorectal cancer.

Inform Diagnostics provides fee-based consulting services to help clients understand their options for quality reporting and how to embed quality reporting into their practice or center. Quality reporting such as via GIQuIC is required for participation in the CMS programs Value-Based Modifiers and Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) as the industry goes to a pay-for-performance model.
